Hello everybody! Today I want to share with you this recipe that I learned in school and I swear, it is delicious.
So here’s the ingredients you will need:
- 1 cup of flour (some extra flour )
- 6 eggs
- 2 sticks of unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 3/4 cups of sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 medium jar of jam (of whatever flavour you like, i love strawberry jam so i always use that one)
- 1 cloth napkin
- 1 large rectangular cake mold
- 1/2 of sugar glass
- Some pastry to cover the cake or frosting
- A electric whisk
And if you like to do your own frosting, i can show you how to do a super delicious coffee frosting and a cover for the cake (but I would jump the jam step because coffee and jam doesn’t go together very well, instead you can fill the roll cake with pastry). For this frosting you will need:
- 1 cup of frosting
- 2 tablespoons of glass sugar
- 1 tablespoon of chocolate powder
- 1 or 2 teaspoons of instant coffee
And for the procediment of this frosting we need to whisk the frosting until you can take a spoon and turn it around and it won’t fall out, then we add all the other ingredients and with this frosting we cover the cake with the help of a small spatula (or if you don’t have one you can use a butter knife).
You can also decorate with M&M, cherries, chocolates, etc…
How we are going to made this roll cake:
First we’re going to grease and sprinkle with flour the large rectangular cake mold. Then we sift the flour, the baking powder and the salt. We are going to melt the butter. In a well dry bowl were going to put only the eggs’ whites and with the whisk we are going to beat that fast till it look just like bubbles. Then we add the yolks. Then we add the sugar, the mix of flour, baking powder and salt, then the butter and lastly the vanilla extract.
We’re gonna put that on the cake mold and bake it for 200° celsius for 15 minutes (or 392° fahrenheit for the same time), at the same time that’s baking we’re going to wet our cloth napkin and extend it on our table, we sprinkle the glass sugar on the napkin and that is where we’re going to roll our cake.
Once pur cake is done, we put it on the cloth napkin and we cover up with the jam, and quickly we roll it, to do that we take the napkin to begin and we start to roll the cake with our hands while we do thatś make sure you’re separating the napkin from the cake, once you roll it all you will lift with the cake without the napkin.
We’re done, all we have to do it’s wait for it to cool completely and now we can decorate it with our frosting or our pastry. I hope you enjoy this cake roll recipe and that you give it a try. 😀
